Considering that there are lots of manga titles with endings that disappointed fans, ending a manga series is a tough order. And it seems that Tokyo Revengers wasn’t able to satisfy a big part of the fanbase.
Tokyo Revengers’ Manga Ending
In case you’re unfamiliar, Tokyo Revengers is a manga by Ken Wakui that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from March 2017 to November 2022. Since its release, it has become one of the most popular manga in Japan. Currently, it is one of Shonen Magazine’s bestselling titles, with the series having over 65 million copies in circulation as of July 2022. Thanks to its popularity, the series received a TV anime adaptation by Liden Films that aired from April to September 2021. The anime also got renewed for a second season. Plus, the series also received a live-action film adaptation. Without getting into heavy spoiler territory, the manga’s story ended on a happy note, with some fans summing up the ending as a truly happy ending for everyone. Essentially, the series’ ending saw that most (if not all) of the principal characters and villains ended up as friends or allies of the main character, Takemichi. While a happy ending is something that most fans of any series want, it seems that Tokyo Revengers got its happy ending in a rushed and undeserved way based on the fans’ reactions. Fan Reactions to Tokyo Revengers’ Ending
If you look at posts on Twitter, there are lots of tweets about how bad the Tokyo Revengers ending was. Some are hyperbolically calling it the “worst manga ever” while others are quite creative with how they’re expressing their dislike of the ending. One of the funnier reactions is that some fans are calling the conclusion a Disney ending given how happy everyone ended up in the finale. While a lot of fans are not satisfied with the ending, there are still some who are satisfied with it. Despite the rushed nature and many plot conveniences, those that like it point to how happy they are with the positive ending for their favorite characters. The Tokyo Revengers manga has concluded, but the TV anime adaptation will continue with Season 2, which will be released early next year.
