As reported by Murphy’s Multiverse, notable insider Daniel Richtman claimed that Marvel is currently casting an actor who will play the villain in Thunderbolts which is described as an “Evil Superman.” It’s been speculated that the description could refer to Sentry. In addition, they reported that Marvel is looking at either Ryan Gosling or Alexander Skarsgard as the actors that are being eyed to play the villain since the role calls for a male lead between ages 30 and 50.
We do have to take note that the scoop has not been confirmed yet by Marvel nor reported by the major trades so we also have to take it with a grain of salt for now. However, the source has reported accurate scoops in the past so there is a likelihood that it will end up being true. It is interesting to hear that the film may have a high-powered being as the main villain considering that the line-up of the team consists of either highly-trained fighters or injected with the super-soldier serum and none of them have the power level of an “evil Superman.” However, it also opens up a compelling story and it makes the stakes higher for the team. If the character does end up being Sentry, Gosling and Skarsgard are intriguing choices and both of them are certainly great actors who fit the role. Let’s just wait and see whether either actor will end up being cast. As far as we know, Gosling himself has expressed interest in joining the MCU in the past.
