After over 15 years, we’re seeing the return of Tim Allen as the beloved Santa Claus in the film franchise. This time around, however, The Santa Clauses comes as a six-episode miniseries just in time for the Christmas season. But Tim Allen is not the only one reprising his role. Here’s a quick guide of the different characters you’ll encounter while watching The Santa Clauses:
Scott Calvin/Santa Claus
Tim Allen is reprising his role as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in The Santa Clause. If you watched the first The Santa Clause film that was released in 1994, you can probably remember Scott Calvin as the grumpy businessman who suddenly becomes the new Santa Claus after the old man falls from his rooftop and Calvin puts on Santa’s coat.
Carol Calvin/Mrs. Claus
The first time Elizabeth Mitchell joined the franchise was in The Santa Clause 2. Mitchell plays the role of Carol, who later becomes Scott’s wife and Mrs. Claus. In The Santa Clauses, the two are still together and now have a couple of teenage kids, Cal and Sandra. There’s also Charlie Calvin, Scott’s child from his ex-wife, who helped him accept his new role as Santa Claus.
Bernard
One of the things to look forward to in The Santa Clauses is the return of some characters from the first films. David Krumholtz is among those we can look forward to seeing in the miniseries as he reprises his role as Bernard, the number one elf at the North Pole. Krumholtz was unavailable for the third film so his return to the franchise is a much awaited one.
Simon Choksi
Played by Kal Penn, Simon Choksi is described as a single father aiming to be “the next Jeff Bezos.” Choksi is a game inventor and product developer who makes a visit to the North Pole. Is it a coincidence that his initials are the same as Scott Calvin’s and Santa Claus'?
Charlie Calvin
Another actor we’ll see returning to the franchise is Eric Lloyd, who played Scott’s eldest son, Charlie. In the miniseries, Charlie is now all grown up and has a family of his own.
Cal Calvin
If you were able to watch The Santa Clause 3, you’ll probably remember seeing a baby boy nicknamed Buddy Claus at the end of the film. Well, the little baby is all grown up and is played by Austin Kane.
Sandra Calvin
Interestingly, the miniseries will also mark the acting debut of Tim Allen’s real-life daughter, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, who will play the role of Sandra Calvin. She is the youngest daughter of Scott and Carol Calvin in the film.
Betty
Betty (played by Matilda Lawler) is a new elf we’ll meet in The Santa Clauses.
Le Befana
This time around, we may be getting a real antagonist in the series. Le Befana (played by Laura San Giacomo) is a witch who gives away coal to naughty children. But she still gives gifts to good children. We don’t know yet what her involvement in the story is.
The Santa Clauses will be available to stream on Disney+ starting Wednesday, November 16, 2022. You can watch the trailer here:
