News about the upcoming anime was revealed via the show’s official Twitter account and website. Along with the new info about the anime, another teaser visual for the show has been released featuring Ai Hoshino.
What Is Oshi no Ko About?
In case you’re unfamiliar, Oshi no Ko is an upcoming TV anime by Doga Kobo, the studio behind shows like My Senpai Is Annoying and Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie. Oshi no Ko is based on the manga of the same name that serializes in Weekly Young Jump. The manga is written by Aka Akasaka, the author of the popular Kaguya-sama: Love Is War manga. But unlike his previous work, Oshi no Ko is not illustrated by Akasaka. Instead, Scum’s Wish creator Mengo Yokoyari illustrates the manga. The series follows Aquamarine and Ruby Hoshino, the children of the popular idol Ai Hoshino. However, it turns out that these twins are a reincarnation of a doctor and a patient who are fans of Ai. Its story follows the siblings as they work together to become idols like their mother. Though their journey is far from easy as the series delves into the darker side of the idol and entertainment industry. While not all Weekly Young Jump titles get released outside Japan, Oshi no Ko is among the few exceptions as the series is serialized in Manga Plus internationally in English.
Who Is Ai Hoshino’s VA?
It was revealed that the main character, Ai Hoshino, will be voiced by Rie Takahashi, a voice actress who is known for her roles as Emilia in Re:Zero, Megumin in KonoSuba, and Takagi-san in Teasing Master Takagi-san. Unlike the first teaser visual which featured Ai viewed from the back, the new visual for the anime shows Ai from the front as she performs on stage. Aside from the visual, it was revealed that Episode 1 of the series will be 90 minutes long. This feature-length runtime for the first episode is expected to cover the manga’s first 10 chapters.
When Will the Oshi no Ko Anime Be Released?
The Oshi no Ko anime will premiere sometime in 2023. More info about the series will be revealed in a live broadcast featuring Takahashi and other members of the voice cast. The broadcast will go live on December 11, 2022. Read Next: How Are Oshi no Ko and Kaguya-sama Related?
