In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 150, the Zenin clan is on the hunt for Maki Zen’in after she decapitates Ogi Zenin. However, Maki could not be stopped as she uses the new powers she acquired through her twin sister Mai’s sacrifice. Maki annihilates the Kukuru Unit and the Hei. At the end of the chapter. she is confronted by her sadistic cousin Naoya who asks if she has a human heart. Maki replies, “No, it was taken from me.” It’s an awesome line but Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 17’s English translation changes it and this time, the reply has a tender touch (via Reddit). In the translation, Maki says, “No, she took it with her,” a clear reference to her sister Mai.

We’re not sure why the translation is different but oddly, it appears to vary depending on the language. One Reddit user points out that the German translation reads, “No, he ripped it out.” In this one, it is suggested that their father took her heart by killing Mai.

Mai’s death was truly tragic but it also made way for one of the most awesome action sequences in Jujutsu Kaisen. Knowing that Maki was emotionally affected by her twin’s death makes those sequences a lot cooler.

The Zenin clan massacre is one of the most shocking and action-packed story arcs in Jujutsu Kaisen and it’s interesting to note that the translation is different in other languages. With that in mind, we’re glad that Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 17 is finally out.

Jujutsu Kaisen is currently on Chapter 194 in the middle of the Sakurajima Colony story arc.
