What Is a Kir Royale?
The Kir Royale is a popular French drink since the 1840s. Shortly after the créme de cassis was developed, the cocktail was created by Félix Kir, the mayor of Dijon in Burgundy. According to historians, the mayor loved to serve the drink to his guests when World War II ended. The cocktail has two ingredients: champagne and créme de cassis, a tarty liquor made from blackcurrants. When Emily introduces the cocktail to her boyfriend, Alfie (played by Lucien Laviscount), he says: “That’s like a fizzy wine cooler. I like it!”
Which Episode Did Emily First Try the Kir Royale?
In Emily in Paris Season 3 Episode 4 entitled Live From Paris, It’s Emily Cooper, Emily reunites with her old colleagues/friends, Luc (played by Bruno Gouery) and Julien (played by Samuel Arnold) for lunch with the Roue de Paris in the backdrop. At the restaurant, Luc orders a round of Kir Royale for the group before they proceed to have lunch. With one sip, Emily is instantly hooked on the drink. Luc explains what the cocktail is to her and says that it is “the perfect drink to sip and do nothing as the ferris wheel turns.” After trying out the drink, Emily seems to fall in love with it so much that she pitches it to the parents of her friend, Camille (played by Camille Razat), who own a vineyard.
Is Chamère a Real Product?
Unfortunately, the product that Emily proposes to Camille’s parents, Chamère, is fictional for the show. Emily proposes selling the Kir Royale in a cocktail can which is “all the rage among 18-35s.” This fictional product is called Chamère. Even though it isn’t a real product, you can buy the cocktail and its bottled versions throughout France. What’s even better is that you can make it at home.
How to Make a Kir Royale at Home
Since a Kir Royale simply has two ingredients, you can make it at home easily. You will need a bottle of champagne and crème de cassis. You can also substitute that with dry sparkling wine and other liquor flavors like crème de framboise or crème de pêche. Using a wine flute, add three to four tablespoons of crème de cassis. After that, top up the glass with the champagne. You can also make your drink extra fruity by adding a couple of raspberries. Serve the drink immediately after preparing.
