Is Luthen Rael A Former Jedi in Star Wars: Andor?
This theory has been going on for quite some time and with Luthen Rael being so enigmatic from the start, he’s quite hard to crack on who he really is, but if Luthen is actually a Jedi in Star Wars: Andor, it could really change the perspective on how the Rebellion was born. Throughout the series, Luthen Rael has been a mysterious figure who became one of the Rebellion’s early leaders against the Empire and he is one powerful man, too, gathering resources for the cause through his connections from within and outside the Empire. One could say that Cassian Andor will not be one of the heroes of the Rebellion without Luthen Rael because, he, in fact, recruited Andor during the Aldhani mission but this is where the first hint of Luthen being a Jedi appears: the blue Kyber crystal.

See, a Kyber crystal is closely connected to a Jedi because it is what powers the lightsaber. It’s also important to note that what Luthen gave to Cassian is a blue one because when a Kyber crystal turns blue, it means that it is in tune with a Jedi. With Luthen wanting the crystal back from Cassian, it could mean that the Kyber crystal is quite important to him. Then, there’s the vast collection of Luthen Rael in Episode 10 which speaks volumes that he could actually be a Jedi. There’s Padme’s headpiece, a Mandalorian armor, the claw armor of Raxus Secundus, and a Jedi temple guard mask. But in the same episode, Luthen also gives one of the most notable monologues in the series where he says, “I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there’s only one conclusion, I’m damned for what I do." See, it was around 15 years before the events of Star Wars: Andor when the fall of the Jedi Order happened which connects Luthen more to being a Jedi, around the time when the clones executed the Jedi, or if Luthen wasn’t a Jedi, he could be a Jedi temple guard. The last clue is when Luthen met with Saw Gerrera in Episode 11 where one of the men of Saw inspected Luthen for weapons and Luthen had with him something that looks like a lightsaber. Could it be that Luthen Rael was a former Jedi? There are already a lot of hints to him being one and given what happened during Order 66, he could have a solid grudge to form the rebellion and see the fall of the Empire.
