In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Gary Oldman explained that he has been working for a long time but he is ready to pursue other interests. “I’ve had an enviable career, but careers wane, and I do have other things that interest me outside of acting. When you’re young, you think you’re going to get round to doing all of them — read that book — then the years go by,” Oldman said. “I’m 65 next year; 70 is around the corner. I don’t want to be active when I’m 80,” he added. He then pointed out that Slow Horses could be the last movie he will work on.
“I’d be very happy and honoured and privileged to go out as Jackson Lamb and then hang it up,” Oldman stated. Gary Oldman started acting in theater in 1979 and worked on several plays including Cabaret, Privates on Parade, and Romeo and Juliet. His first film was 1982’s Remembrance before his breakout role as Sid Vicious in Sid and Nancy four years later. The 90s led to several amazing performances in movies like JFK, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Leon: The Professional, and The Fifth Element. Although the younger generation knows and loves him as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter films, he also played an important role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. Despite his storied career, Oldman has only won one Academy Award for his performance in 2018’s The Darkest Hour. For now, it is still unclear if Slow Horses will be Gary Oldman’s last official movie. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
