Director Johan Renck revealed on Instagram that filming for Dune: The Sisterhood is now underway by posting the original book cover of the first Dune novel by Frank Herbert as well as one of its iconic quotes in the caption. “On this day, we commence filming Dune: The Sisterhood for HBO Max. Through machinations taking place millenia before the story you all know, we descend into the coven that one day shall be named the Bene Gesserit. Say it with me: ‘I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration,’” he wrote. In addition, he also revealed that Shazam! and Kingsman star Mark Strong is joining the cast as he tagged him in the post alongside some of the other actors who are confirmed to be part of the series. However, there are no details provided regarding the role that he is playing.
The series is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides (as depicted in Dune) and it will follow the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. Diane Ademu-John serves as the creator, writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer of the series. Renck is directing the first episode and serves as executive producer as well. Denis Villeneuve, who directs the Dune films, is also part of the executive producing team. Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson, Indira Varma, Travis Fimmel, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea are confirmed to be part of the cast. It is exciting to hear that Strong is going to be part of the series since he is a talented actor as we’ve seen in numerous films that he starred in. Given his caliber, it looks like he will be playing a major supporting role. It’s also curious to see which character will he play and whether he will be on the good or bad side.
