Russell T. Davies was recently a guest on BBC One’s The One Show where he opened up about Jodie Whittaker’s final scene (via Radio Times). He firmly stated that he didn’t want to “upstage” Whittaker’s series farewell and also avoided dropping spoilers. Still, Davies couldn’t help but hype up the upcoming special.
“I can’t say [any spoilers] honestly, because what is coming up in October this year is Jodie Whittaker’s farewell, so I feel like I’m upstaging her slightly,” he said. Davies then revealed he had already seen the episode and gushed about the special.
“I just saw the finished version of that two days ago. It’s a 90-minute epic, it’s fantastic, [it] is gorgeous. Lots of surprises,” he said.
This is great news considering we all have high expectations when it comes to Jodie Whittaker’s final episode. If Russell T. Davies loves the special, there is little doubt that Whovians will be delighted with the upcoming episode.
Although we’re sad that Jodie Whittaker is leaving Doctor Who, we’re also excited about the next Time Lord who will take over after the Thirteenth Doctor. It has already been confirmed that Ncuti Gatwa will be introduced as the Fourteenth Doctor later this year and we can’t wait to see the Sex Education star in the regeneration scene.
For now, we don’t have the release date of the third 2022 Doctor Who special which will be Jodie Whittaker’s final outing as the Time Lord. However, the episode is already set to premiere on BBC in October. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
