The confirmation of a second season was originally made back in January 2021. During the initial announcement, it was revealed that the next season had a tentative 2022 release date. Now though, the release is delayed, but this time, the new release date should be final. BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense is an anime by Silver Link that’s based on the light novel series of the same name by Yuumikan. The light novel series is published by Kadokawa and began in September 2017. Since then, the series now has 14 volumes. Thanks to its popularity, it also received a manga adaptation in 2018, followed by a 1-cour TV anime that aired from January to March 2020.
The isekai anime follows Kaede Honjo who starts playing the VRMMORPG NewWorld Online under the name “Maple”. As Maple doesn’t want to get hurt, she chooses to become a shield user. On top of this, every time she levels up, she puts all her status points on her defense. Because of this, Maple is slow and has no magic, but she has an incredibly high defense, letting her survive most attacks without taking damage. Despite not having offensive abilities, Maple’s quick thinking and high defense give her success. As she progresses through the game, Maple becomes one of NewWorld Online’s strongest players.
The cast from Season 1 is confirmed to return for the second season, including Kaede Hondo as Maple, Ruriko Noguchi as Sally, Satomi Arai as Kaede, Saori Hayami as Kasumi, and Miyuri Shimabukuro as Syrup, among others. Meanwhile, Season 1 director Shin Oonuma is also back for Season 2. He is joined by other returning staff members, including writer Fumihiko Shimo, character designer Kazuya Hirata, and more. BOFURI Season 2 will premiere in Japan in January 2023.
